Black Forest drag queen Betty BBQ and the Freiburg music artist Redneck Jack together with the band trio Hairball Remedy present the underground remix of “Das Lila Lied”: The first homosexual anthem in a danceable guise!<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Das Lila Lied” is<\/span> the world’s first homosexual anthem from 1920<\/b>, which was an amazing success at the time. Today this extraordinary work, originally a march, is hardly noticed, but remarkable for the time. <\/span><\/p>\n

This was the reason for Betty BBQ in June 2020, this song with a cover performed by the band<\/span> Hairball Remedy<\/span><\/a> \u2013 with whom Betty has worked many times before \u2013 for his 100th birthday. anniversary to give it the attention it deserves. For the first time, Betty BBQ did not appear as an interpreter, but as a producer and publisher.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of the – in every respect – memorable year 2020, Betty BBQ is now following up with “Das Lila Lied” and presents us with the release of<\/span> “Das Lila Lied – Underground Remix”<\/b> on Christmas Day, a<\/span> danceable version of the cover recordings of Das Lila Lied<\/b>. Betty BBQ has teamed up with the multi-talented music artist Redneck Jack, who has been and is involved in many music and band projects in Freiburg.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was important to Betty BBQ and Redeck Jack not to deface \u201cDas Lila Lied\u201d for the sake of the \u201cremix\u201d, but to give it a worthy remix and party guise that does not turn the message and the fight of homosexuals into a pure disco beat can become a shell. <\/span>To keep the melody, the song and the message and to invite the listener to sing along and to be part of the music movement, i.e. to make \u201cDas Lila Lied\u201d even more tangible – that was the goal and it was a success!<\/b><\/p>\n

Anyone who hears the song will quickly realize how unbelievable it is that such a text was possible 100 years ago – between the two destructive world wars and before the inhuman Nazi dictatorship. The fact that the song’s message is just as relevant today should be a reminder that our society is perhaps not as modern and liberal in every respect as it likes to be.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40″][vc_column_text]\n

After the proclamation of the Weimar Republic, a brief period of improvement began for lesbians and gays. It was a constant ups and downs, depending on the political situation, but with the establishment of basic democratic rights and the abolition of censorship there was a surge in gay and lesbian self-esteem, especially in the cities and especially in Berlin. Due to the scope, many new associations, clubs and pubs emerged. In 1919 Magnus Hirschfeld founded his institute for sexology, in the same year Richard Oswald shot Anders als die Other, the first German cinema film to deal with homosexuality, and in 1921 the “First International Conference for Sexual Reform on a Sexological Basis” took place.<\/p>\n

Two then still unknown, but later quite successful men wrote the song. The text was written by Kurt Schwabach, who \u2013 interrupted by emigration \u2013 continued to write many popular hits for Evelyn K\u00fcnneke, Zarah Leander and Freddy Quinn, among others, until the end of the 1950s. The pseudonym Arno Billing was given as the composer; behind this was Mischa Spoliansky, one of the most successful cabaret and revue composers of the Weimar Republic. Both provided the song with the dedication “To the tireless researcher and friend Mr. Medical Councilor Dr. Dedicated to Magnus Hirschfeld.\u201d<\/p>\n
